osw...please don't ever feel bad I was pretty certain when I wrote the whole bit but...Now of course I need to make sure(absolutely 100 % and I am only in the high 80 percentile range lol) again please don't feel bad I am so appreciative (especially if it's wrong) Any issues a reader has with a story lie at the feet of the writer...mistakes, consistency (that's not the exact word I'm looking for, I know I know the word fer the life o me can't f-ing find it in the files) accuracy (especially in the details [ahh details!])...but as to the issue...well looking up stuff as I write this an early "unconditional" release would be rare and is only done in certain states (I need to check if it's even possible in SD) fer certain reasons (so thanks [I mean it really] because that type of...mistake, flaw can spoil the reality I am trying to create and make the story seem kinda silly instead of tense and real)Okay but so it's fixable either explain some odd rare unconditional release (not in favor of that really) or adjust his crime and sentence, his type of release or a combo of those last two ( which I have suddenly thought up a kick butt way to tie it in neatly with the whole Grocery Manger & Church Angle) Anyway osw thanks again you can be my official fact checker (or better yet [and especially with Monsters my much longer novel of WP] you can become my co-writer lol) Anyway again thanks thanks thanks, don't feel bad, this was one of the reasons I put it up there in the first place, honest appraisal...wait...continuity...story line continuity...okay jes wanted to get that in there Where was I oh yes, please continue to be yerself...okay so anyway this response has taken me over two hours to write...and I was sure I was ready to start posting again(oh it is to laugh). Well I vowed I would slap something out in the next day or so and at least I am online at the computer on WP, which may have been nearly a month since I visited last (It's all kind'a foggy in that direction)...but I'll save the rest fer the post...Happy 4th (my favorite holiday) to you and Mr. Spartan, God bless ya and God Bless America

I just realized--in the beginning of the chapter, you say he got sentenced to 45, could have gotten out in 15, but pulled an extra dime. So if he did 25 of his 45 year sentence, would that be a conditional release? (I'm not obsessing over your novel, I swear--I'm just using it to distract myself from realizing I'm not focused enough to write my own!)

Mr. Spartan confirmed the state line thing only applies when you are conditionally released, so it seems that my first question was just my misunderstanding of the system! On the second question, I really like the whole lying to himself to give himself permission to be selfish idea (oh, and so true we all do!). I was trying to think of what you could do there to make it feel more consistent with his experiences, and that's perfect really. I think even if you just threw one sentence in there acknowledging that on some level he should have known, but he somehow rationalized his choice in denial of the consequences in order to escape the life his mother created for them, then any sense of inconsistency would disappear. (did that ramble make any sense? Sorry about the jibberish--it's getting late here!)

I hope the feedback was okay--sometimes I just blurt things out and the good intentions behind them don't always come across! I really am enjoying the story, especially the way you capture Mac's personal interactions. There's just a very raw honesty there that feels authentic, like the whole scene between him and the grocer's daughter in the store--it gave me chills because I could totally see that whole scene with a young girl having only a vague sense that she has the power to arrouse a man without realizing the details of what's actually running through his head! I think capturing those interactions is definitely one of your greater strengths.

I hope that noggin of yours is feeling better! Head injuries always scare me, so I hope you're listening to Lil Mouse and letting her keep an eye on it! Heal up soon and give my regards to LM!

Thanks so much fer yer honest comments Miss Osw...I do appreciate it so much...As far as crossing state lines go I'm about 90 % certain that is only if you are released 'early' with these as conditions(parole or prob)...which of course means I need to make sure that I did not suggest somewhere earlier that he had been conditionally released...(me and continuity are not always the closest bedfellows) As to the second point, after a couple rereads of the chapter I might agree that adult Mac needs to acknowledge that in hindsight young Mac 'knew something' bad would happen but was (like so many of us do) lying to himself to give himself permission to be selfish(I like the idea will have to figure out how to incorporate it)...again thanks so much I really appreciate yer attention to details, and yer honest questions or comments...and I will apologize now fer being so hit and miss...I keep thinking I am going to be back on top of this head bash thing but it has really slowed me down (I'm not one to take to convalescing real well) mostly in ridiculous levels of aggravation and confusion over usually simple things (like searching my mental files fer the right word)...oh and believing I've done things after only planning to do them...oh it is to laugh. All this is getting better though, so I have confidence...or faith anyway(on bad days lol) that it will all work out as it should.

Hey DYSU! I'm trying to catch up on Left Turn, and I realized there were a couple thoughts I had on this chapter when you posted it tht I never got around to commenting. There were a couple questions that came up for me here. The first one was about him going back out to Cali. I wondered if a con who just got out would be trying to jump state lines if he was trying to go straight. Not that I know a whole bunch of ex-cons, but of the handful I have known over the years, I was always under the impression that when you first get out, there's pretty strict rules about where you can live and getting permission from your parole officer before you leave the state. The other question I had was about him stealing the drugs. It doesn't quite seem to fit that growing up in the life he wouldn't have realized the consequences of taking off with the Devil's shit. Idk--I could be way off here--it just seemed like he should have seen his family getting killed coming. As usual, great writing. I love "the world was monstrously cruel, capricious violence was just around every corner, and only the toughest prosper." Very poignant. I'm off to catch up--I left off somewhere around chapter 5, just when things started getting going! ...

Lol. Ah, DYSU, I'd never deny a man his male pride! And I'm not laughing at you so much as at the image of you running head first into the wall! Hopefully you've gotten some rest and healed up since your accident : )
